When you’re loading up your spacious Honda Pilot, there’s no denying that the power tailgate comes in handy. Has yours been acting up lately? Our experts at Heritage Honda Westminster are outlining the simple steps to complete a Honda Pilot power tailgate reset to get yours back to new.
Power Tailgate Overview
The power tailgate is designed to make it as convenient as possible to load your Honda Pilot. It not only opens automatically, but it also closes and locks on its own when you press the Walk Away Close button in the cargo area. The tailgate also features a programmable height setting so that you can keep it from hitting overhead objects.
Reset Your Tailgate
If your SUV’s power tailgate doesn’t close or open correctly, a reset can correct this issue for you.
Follow these steps to reset your SUV’s power tailgate:
- Place your vehicle in park and unlock all of your doors
- Press and hold the power tailgate button on the dash until your tailgate starts to open
- Press it again to stop (or hold it until it reverses)
- Press the tailgate inner button to automatically close the tailgate
Replacing Your Liftgate Struts
There is another potential culprit for your tailgate not staying open – the struts. Your liftgate struts are the parts on both sides of your liftgate that help to prop it open. If they lose their gas pressure, they will need to be replaced.
