Vehicles are more than just cars, trucks, or SUVs these days. There are so many components to choosing a new vehicle, even what type of powertrain you’d like.
We’re taking a look at the inner workings of a hybrid Honda car at Heritage Honda Westminster to help you determine if that’s the best choice for you.
What Is a Hybrid Vehicle?
A hybrid vehicle is a vehicle that is powered by two energy sources – an internal combustion engine and one (or more) electric motors. They collect energy in two different ways as well. The internal combustion engine is fueled by gasoline and, of course, is filled up with a visit to the gas station. The electric motor is fueled by energy, which comes from an internal battery.
How Do You Charge the Electric Motor?
You do not need to charge your electric motor(s) yourself. A hybrid vehicle will continuously charge itself as you drive. It uses the energy produced from regenerative braking, as well as your combustion engine, to keep your battery full. As it depletes, or driving conditions dictate, it will automatically change from electric to gasoline power. You can also manually switch between the two if you choose.
Is a Hybrid Different Than a Plug-in Hybrid?
A plug-in hybrid is similar to a hybrid in the sense that is pulls energy from multiple sources. It also has an internal combustion engine and electric motor but features a much larger battery. The biggest difference between the two, arguably, is the plug-in part. You can power a plug-in hybrid vehicle by plugging it into a power source to charge it.
