Being a safer and more alert driver on the road is a highly recommended resolution for 2020. This includes common road practices, such as refraining from phone use or eating behind the wheel. However, plans may also include a new vehicle with up-to-date safety technology. This is definitely worth consideration if your car is in the two-digit age range. Fortunately, the Honda brand is well known for its advanced safety technology.

The Japanese automaker has the motto, “Safety for Everyone.” Its safety features are divided into two categories: active safety and passive safety.

Active safety includes a suite of features that assist your driving. One example is the multi-angle rearview camera that allows you to manually select between three different viewing formats. Other active safety systems include Brake Assist, Electronic Brake Distribution, Anti-Lock Braking System, and Vehicle Stability Assist™. All of the above, by the way, come standard across all Honda vehicles, such as the 2020 Honda Accord and others. Of course, we'd be remiss not to mention Honda Sensing®, the innovative suite of driver-assist technologies found in our new Honda models:

  • Collision Mitigation Braking System™
  • Road departure mitigation system
  • Adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow
  • Lane keeping assist system

Let’s examine the passive safety technology. These comprise of systems that are inactive and only come into play in the event of a collision or other emergency scenario. Passive safety is not limited to technology. It also includes the vehicle’s own frame, which utilizes ACE™ Body Structure. This is a Honda-exclusive and designed to distribute the crash energy evenly in a frontal collision. Another feature are front seat belts with a pretensioner that retracts instantly, thereby reducing impact to the driver’s chest in a collision.

We want to stress, though, that even the most advanced safety features are not a replacement for attentive driving. Likewise, it’s not a replacement for regular Honda car service in Westminster, MD. Vehicles not maintained are more likely to have troubles mid-commute, putting you in a dangerous situation. Contact us at Heritage Honda Westminster to learn more!
