Your Guide to Changing a Flat Tire

At Heritage Honda Westminster, we believe that being a excellent Honda dealership means satisfying all our customer’s expectations and providing them with the information they need to make the most out of their driving experience. And to us, no nugget of information is quite as important as knowing how to change a flat tire.

Your tires are vulnerable, even if they take a beating on a near-daily basis. Your car’s tires support the weight of our vehicles and everyone inside, and they also provide traction with the road. Unfortunately, though, tires can burst and leave you stranded on the side of the road. For this reason, it is incredibly important to know what to do when worse comes to worst.

For starters, it is worthwhile to come prepared. At all times, you should carry at least a car jack, an air pressure gauge, and a wrench. These tools will come in handy when tragedy strikes and you end up with a flat. When you do encounter a flat tire, it is wise to pull off into a space that allows you enough room to change it safely. When you’ve found a safe spot, use the car jack to lift your car so that the flat tire in question is at least six inches off of the ground. Using the wrench, remove the lug nuts from the tire, then shift the flat off of the axel. Before placing your spare, you should check the air pressure using your air pressure gauge. Once you’ve confirmed your spare is ready to go, install it to the axel using the lug nuts from the flat. While you may have four working tires, your work is far from done.
