The Honda Passport is a nimble SUV long compared to its larger cousin, the Honda Pilot. The latter, by the way, was named the Best Car to Buy in 2016 by The Car Connection. Now, with 2020 looming, the automotive site listed the 2020 Honda Passport as a nominee for its 2020 Best Car to Buy. The midsize SUV is also a nice middle-of-the-road option for folks who feel the Honda Pilot may be too big and the Honda CR-V too small.

The Honda Passport, though, is far more than just a more compact cousin of the Honda Pilot. The two do share the same engine in the form of a 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. A reviewer from Car Connection described cruising in the Honda Passport as being “zen calm.” The reviewer also recommended it as a camping vehicle. With the rear seat folded-down, the SUV has a storage capacity equivalent to a 78-cubic-feet Rubbermaid bin, making it perfect for storing outdoor gear. The exterior is also suitable for installation of a roof-mounted tent.

Despite being smaller, the 2020 Honda Passport has an identical tow capacity as the Honda Pilot at 5,000-pounds. It also rated highly in crash tests, garnering a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The winner for The Best Car to Buy in 2020 will be announced on January 2, 2020. It will be interesting to see if the 2020 Honda Passport takes home the award.
